A Casual Update About Poetry, Patreon & a New Tack

It’s already been fucked.

[REDACTED] I intended to release a poem a day (every weekday) & I already fucked it up; after a weekend wedding more akin to a festival (my friends & I can’t help ourselves; we’re terrible), I came back to real life with ideas but no energy to bring them from the ether.

Womp womp.

Normally, I would have shut down on this note——I would have considered this a point of failure & proceeded to not lift a finger, just stew in the self-inflicted wounds & linger. I would have gone radio silent & left you, dear reader, to wonder.

But that’s not what is going to happen any more. A poem per day is much harder than I may have wagered, but I am here to see this challenge through. It’s not even a challenge, per se.

It’s just a new that I’m going to do things, which is a long way of saying I have announcement to make:

  • I am writing poems daily for Patreon;
  • These poems will not be first drafts, neither will they be final editions, just ideas that I believe to be sculpted well enough to share;
  • At the end of each month, I will collect the best & share them on the Casual Ramble (blog)

In a way, I am reconstructing the benefits of becoming a Patreon member for the Casual Ramble on the fly. Actually, yes, that’s precisely what is happening here; the decision has been made.

It’s already been fucked.

To be sure, more changes, more words are to come. But the days of trying to do it all are already gone. I have spoken before of how important Greg McKeown’s book Essentialism has been to my evolving artistic sensibilities. This is just the next step in paring down my scope to something more manageable & self-sustaining.

I am longer pretending to be anything else than what I am, now. [Editor’s Note: a friggin’ poet.]

When I finally build another computer able to edit videos, I will resume the Casual Camera. For now, it’s poetry every day, rambles & essays when I can, & short stories for some time in the future. I still want to do them, I just need to make a more solid foundation first.

It was all fucked once, but now——slowly & surely——it won’t be.

——The Casual Rambler

P.S. I released a new poem on the Patreon!

Thanks again to my lovely Patrons: Jenny, Julie, Roshi, Zero & Phil, as well as all my Casual Ramblers for your support. If you would like to join the Casual Ramble for early access to poems, short films & the like, subscribe via the link below!

About The Casual Rambler

An insane man moonlighting as a respectable member of society from Portland, Oregon. A rock ‘n’ roller since his mother first spun The Police’s “Roxanne,” Ben is a lover of all things independent music. Once upon a time, a friend told him to write about music. So he started doing that under the title of a Willie Bobo cover by Santana. Now he just casually rambles about whatever crosses his mind.
