A Casual Update About the Good Exhaustion

I am exhausted.

Exhausted from driving in the small hours of Saturday night into Sunday morning. Exhausted from catching just two hours of zees because I chose to burn away the reasonable hours for driving. Exhausted from spending the last hours of slow day working on my manuscript because the bumper sticker on my spirit says it all:

“I’d rather be writing.”

And now it is——dare I say it?——finished.

Well, there are still some pictures to insert. And a writer’s biography still left to edit. But this is all welcome. A joyful exhaustion. One wrought from a full weekend spent making friends from long time acquaintances; writing poems for birthdays; following up on small romances.

You see, I’m sleepless from Seattle because I see about a girl. And, yes it was worth it, but I’m going to leave it at that. What happens next is matter of finishing up previously left unattended. What happens after is matter that can be left for later.

For now, I am caught between festivals & constantly having to remind myself that not every weekend needs to be a festival. But some can & those that are become the gas that makes the mind tick, the keys click & the words stick.

Even as I do it all exhausted sleepless.

Editors note: Forgot to mention this, but the Casual Ramble Patreon has just released its daily poem! The idea is that I will release poems daily on weekdays for paid subscribers & that the poetry drops will become an end-of-month roundup of those I like best. This is a huge challenge, but I think it’s one that I can actually pull off. Fingers crossed, we’re doing it.

I’d like to give thanks to my wonderful patrons, Jennifer, Michael, Roshi, Zero and Phil, as well as the many free members of the Casual Ramble. Without you, everything that has been would not be and everything that is to come would not happen. This post was released a week early to my Patreon supporters, if you’d like to receive early access to poetry, short films and other works, you can join the Casual Ramble Patreon via the link below!

About The Casual Rambler

An insane man moonlighting as a respectable member of society from Portland, Oregon. A rock ‘n’ roller since his mother first spun The Police’s “Roxanne,” Ben is a lover of all things independent music. Once upon a time, a friend told him to write about music. So he started doing that under the title of a Willie Bobo cover by Santana. Now he just casually rambles about whatever crosses his mind.
