A Casual Update About How I Overthought It

Trying out a new thing where I still write my thoughts out on my typewriter, but also write them out below for legibility’s sake. It’ll be a 1:1 digitization, but at least this way I can maintain a site that is made for people of all abilities.

Moreover, I have some thoughts on how to better share my poetry every day on Patreon. I want to build up the reservoir of material to do so, but changes are coming!

Hey there! Casual Rambler here, just wanting to thank you for reading my blog. I try to avoid marketing myself and I don’t like paywalling content. That’s why most of this website, if not all, is free. However, subscribing to my Patreon helps me keep doing it. Patrons gain exclusive short stories as well as early-access to monthly poetry and photography posts. Thanks again and please enjoy the rest of the site!

Of course the one essay I write about overthinking it becomes a textbook case on how to overthink it.

I even liked the words up until the ending; I just didn’t know how to end it.

What was supposed to be a reset, a reminder of what brought me joy in the midst of a great change at my day job transformed into a bit of monstrosity that couldn’t decide how to link up its Frankenstein parts.

Whatever lightning bolt was there grounded down to static noise, without spark or charge. A three-page example of everything I don’t want these essays to be: incongruent, inconsistent & dull. Impotent above all.

So here’s the skinny:

  • Sean Solomon’s new album The World Is Not Good Enough is an emo-folk gem. His live show is a nostalgia trip set to VHS tape. (Seriously, he plays all of his music to collated home videos, old TV shows & handmade animation all put to VHS.) Give it a listen, see him live, if you can.
  • I hope everyone had a happy May the Fourth. Work precluded me from much of the celebrations, but I still managed a Revenge of the Sith watch party with my friend Riss. Moreover, I sat & watched through the entirety of Maul: Shadow Lord, a high watermark for Filoni’s tenure as George Lucas’ padawan.
  • Finally, I’m trying to make time for three activities that bring me joy theswe days: writing, contact staves & Pokemon. All in that order. Monthly poetry drops won’t stop. I just am figuring a way to fit them in.

More to come, stay tuned

About The Casual Rambler

An insane man moonlighting as a respectable member of society from Portland, Oregon. A rock ‘n’ roller since his mother first spun The Police’s “Roxanne,” Ben is a lover of all things independent music. Once upon a time, a friend told him to write about music. So he started doing that under the title of a Willie Bobo cover by Santana. Now he just casually rambles about whatever crosses his mind.
