Howdy, Casual Ramblers!
I am returned from Orbit. This was to be my last festival of the season, a final hurrah before the ides of October & the onset of autumnal quietude. It’s not a normal festival for that reason; it’s mostly a decompression for my friends & I who camp together at such festivals as SOAK, Oregon Country Fair & Kindle, be it as staff, volunteers or simple festivalgoers.
To that definition, I would say Orbit——or “family time” as our friend Sage would call it——was a grand success.
We played games with each other, music for each other & watched movies together. We broke bread & cooked meals for one another. And, of course, we span copious amounts of fire together.
I have to thank the Cats in Space for another special weekend, in particular our Captain Commander Squigglefloof & her second-in-command, Nobody. They put in so much effort to make this event happen & I want them both to know us Cats see them & we love them to Space & back for it.
This particular edition of Orbit was special to me because this tame last year I attended my first ever Orbit & shared my poetry with the Cats.
I don’t——or didn’t——usually open myself up in that way. Poetry had been a mostly secretive thing. My thing. You could see it in how many poems I would share to the blog.
It was due to the encouragement I received from the Cats in Space that my secret thing became my public affair. This year, I showed up with my friend Mochi & a stack of copies of my first ever poetry collection, Lyrics For a Song I Don’t Know.
I don’t believe that this would have happened any other way. I don’t if I would have wanted it to happen any other way.
All I know is that I am sitting here at the base of Multnomah Falls [Editor’s Note: with Mochi!] writing next to the Lodge even though I wanted to write at the top because I needed to write by the Lodge. I was struggling through the weekend——blessed though it was——with an aching back when all I needed was stretch & so I stretched.
I was agonizing over my relationship with poetry when all I needed to do was share it & so I shared it. With readers of my blog at first but with my friends most importantly.
(My apologies to my readers, that face-to-face encouragement just hits differently.)
Now I have my book published. I am struggling with PayPal at the moment not recognizing that I submitted plenty of ID documents for a business account, but I promise that when I finally have an online store option, you guys will be the first to know.
In the meantime, I will be releasing a vending schedule for in-person sales replete with time & locations as well as taking emails at:
thecasualrambler@thecasualramble.com
Please include Lyrics in the subject line & I will respond with payment options posthaste.
I wish every a happy & healthy autumn. Until next I write, ramble on.
