A Casual Ramble About Your Saving Grace

Howdy, Casual Ramblers!

A long time ago, I was an aspiring, freelance music journalist. Well, I guess it’s not so long ago–2022 was only four years ago–but it feels like it.

And yet, even then, 2022 was the beginning of the end. I had stopped forcing myself to listen to at least ten records a week and felt a weight that I just couldn’t shake:

“Did I even like doing this?”

That depended on what the definition this is. I hated the treadmill. I hated the turnaround times. I hated the feeling that nothing I wrote really mattered because, let’s face it, I know next to nothing about music theory.

Just music history and flowery language.

But that doesn’t mean I didn’t like finding a new artist that could rock my world and write about it. Good, bad or ugly, I liked diving into the reason why an album sounded the way it did to me.

And the person who used to hound the internet for records every week and the person who sits and listens to nothing but what the turntable offers are the same person. There’s just nigh a decade between them.

Still, I’m keen to share some thoughts on the first record I set the needle upon after cleaning up my living space.

I’m also keen to share that my thoughts about I, Robot are now available on Patreon for Early Access readers! If you would like to support this website and the mad writings of a rambling author, click the link below and subscribe!

About The Casual Rambler

An insane man moonlighting as a respectable member of society from Portland, Oregon. A rock ‘n’ roller since his mother first spun The Police’s “Roxanne,” Ben is a lover of all things independent music. Once upon a time, a friend told him to write about music. So he started doing that under the title of a Willie Bobo cover by Santana. Now he just casually rambles about whatever crosses his mind.
