The Casual Update: The Week Ahead

Howdy, Casual Ramblers!

I must admit something: I’ve been stuck. Stuck between the pages of my journal, writing, rewriting and then writing again poems that have been equally stuck in my head. And when I brought my head up, I realized that three weeks had passed since my last post.

Oh, dear. That can’t happen again, but I have isolated the reason why: process.

One of the great struggles has been that I wanted every post, every bit of content to feel like it came from the journal of someone who is out in the world, which I have been. The struggle is finding time to transcribe from journal to screen.

However, this started me thinking: in the case of being more consistent with my blog and Patreon, weekly updates are in order. And they do not need to come from a journal, so long as they come from the same hands that write in said journal. So that’s what we’re doing here and, with that, an update on what’s upcoming:

  • Tuesday (11/18) the November Poetry drop is scheduled for early release on Patreon.
  • Thursday (11/20) the Casual Camera is scheduled for early release on Patreon.

Both are available to Borboletta subscribers and will be released to all on the Tuesday (11/25) and Thursday (11/27) of the following week.

I’m quite excited for this next batch of poems, as I took some time outside of fire spinning to focus on how I was feeling as a person after a spat of bad luck, but I digress lest I reveal too much. I’m just happy with where I am as a poet while also stretching myself outside of my comfort zone. To that end, a poem for your time:

To My Dearest Yuri, Beware

Beware the stars you seek,
And the bodies you orbit

Beware the void between the two

And the weight they will take,
Lest they make a moon of you

About The Casual Rambler

An insane man moonlighting as a respectable member of society from Portland, Oregon. A rock ‘n’ roller since his mother first spun The Police’s “Roxanne,” Ben is a lover of all things independent music. Once upon a time, a friend told him to write about music. So he started doing that under the title of a Willie Bobo cover by Santana. Now he just casually rambles about whatever crosses his mind.
